A game company

We become gameshorsesharessparksgames

Puka takes its name from the Púca of Irish folklore — a shapeshifting spirit that is never one thing for long. A black horse, a goat, a stranger at the crossroads. We work the same way: we are not a one-game company. Every game is one of our transformations.

The name

Never one shape for long

The Púca is one of the oldest characters in Irish stories. It changes form as it pleases and turns up where you least expect it. It is mischievous, a little unnerving, and never boring.

That is the kind of company we want to be. Not a studio with one franchise and ten sequels, but one that keeps changing shape: a chalk hero on a blackboard today, an army of written characters tomorrow, a night-market food stall the day after. What stays the same is underneath — small games you understand in five seconds and cannot put down in five minutes.

  • Five seconds to get it. Every game has one signature move you can see from across the room.
  • Fun first, then numbers. We measure the first “wow” in seconds, not the first purchase in days.
  • Small, shipped, and cared for. Short sessions, honest monetisation, and updates after launch.

Games

Chalk Hero: a stick of chalk surrounded by doodle enemies on a blackboard Chalk Hero: drawing a loop around the enemies to wipe them out
Coming to the App Store

Chalk Hero

Survivor roguelite · 3–5 minute runs · one thumb

A half-used stick of chalk defends the blackboard from an invasion of doodles. Kite them, draw a loop around them, and wipe out the whole ring in one move.

Level up between waves, pick from rulers, protractors and compasses, and see how far you get before the eraser comes. Every run is short, every death is your own fault, and the next one starts in a second.

  • Signature move Draw a closed loop — everything inside it goes.
  • Session 3–5 minutes, portrait, one thumb.
  • Platform iPhone first. More to follow.

In the works

Homework Defense: a low-poly classroom battlefield seen from above
In development

Homework Defense

3D tower defense · landscape

The classroom is the battlefield and your pencil case is the armoury. Low-poly stationery armies, one-thumb tower placement, built for the same five-second promise as everything else we make.

In development

Word Legion

Puzzle tower defense · merge to evolve

Written characters are your army. Place a unit, stack three of a kind and it evolves into something that clears a whole lane. Twenty hand-tuned levels, each teaching exactly one new thing.

In development

Stall King

Idle tycoon · a night-market story

Grandma hands you her sausage grill and the rival across the street laughs. Upgrade the menu, hit rush hour, and turn one stall into the busiest corner of the night market — one comeback at a time.

How we make games

A tiny studio with an unusual amount of hands

Puka is a very small team working with AI in the loop at every step: research, design, art, code, testing and launch. That is not a gimmick, it is why we can change shape so often. What we never delegate is judgement — whether a game is actually fun, and whether it is fair to the people who play it.

  1. Find the idea. We read what people are playing, score ideas on six dimensions, and only build the ones that survive.
  2. Prove it is fun in a week. A one-week vertical slice, played by bots and by humans, has to hit its first “wow” inside a minute.
  3. Tune it with numbers. Every economy runs in a simulator before it runs on your phone.
  4. Ship it, then keep listening. Real player feedback goes straight back into the next update.
